We begin the year with a focus on grammar to recap and cement previous learning. We use the ‘Place Value of Grammar’ from Grammarsaurus. We ensure understanding of nouns and verbs before moving onto building single-clause sentences, followed by using conjunctions to join clauses.
We use the beautiful book 'Journey' by Aaron Becker as we learn about using dialogue in our narrative writing.
We use ‘Greta and the Giants’ by Zoe Tucker as we study Climate and Weather in our Geography lessons. Using the issues raised in the story, the children will write a newspaper report and a persuasive letter.
This half term, our English lessons will be based around the amazing book ‘Stone Age Boy’ by Satoshi Kitamura. This links with our History work on the Stone Age. Children will write their own narrative based in the Stone Age.
This half term, our English lessons will be based around the beautiful book ‘The Lost Thing’ by Shaun Tan. Children will write recounts, playscripts and have a focus on descriptive writing.
Our English lessons this half term will include work on the poem ‘The Lion and Albert’ by Marriott Edgar in order to link to our Local History work on Blackpool.
