Physical Education, School Sport and Physical Activity all play a crucial role in supporting the development of young people, so they become well-balanced and responsible individuals, who will contribute positively to life in the 21st century. Physical Education is a vital subject within a broad and balanced curriculum so it is important that teachers feel confident to plan for progression, teach for progression and then accurately assess progress and achievement.

We have built a bespoke PE curriculum to meet the needs to the children in our school.

The following presentation highlights some of the key pointers and information about our PE curriculum in school. It was shared with our School Governors.

The following documents outlines what PE looks like in our school.

Blackpool Football Club

Blackpool Football Club Community Trust are heavily involved in our PE delivery. We use money from our PE Sports Premium to buy in the support of the football club. All teachers have the support of BFC throughout the year in order to support them in providing high-quality, engaging and progressive PE lessons for all children in our school. Delivered over a minimum of 11 weeks, teacher support takes place during curriculum time as face-to-face provision.

The support combines guidance, demonstrations of different approaches and content that actively involves the teachers in delivery. Teachers therefore play a key role in the delivery and are not expected to simply observe. This we believe is the best practice to maximise learning and thus create a positive experience for the teacher being supported.

Teachers play a key role in planning medium-term and short-term plans before, and through the support using our Premier League Primary Stars planning tools.

Pre and post-evaluations are carried out to track teacher progression.

Extra-Curricular Learning

A range of activities are offered outside of the curriculum to both key stages. Some of these are led by school staff while others are led by visiting coaches. We look to provide a wide range of sporting opportunities and experiences and recognise the value this has in promoting healthy lifestyle choices. We also see this as a key goal in providing the opportunity for children to explore different sports and finding the sports and activities which appeal to them.
