School Of Sanctuary

St Kentigern’s is a School of Sanctuary, meaning we are committed to providing a safe and inclusive environment for all who are seeking refuge. A School of Sanctuary aims to ensure pupils, staff and the wider community are welcomed and treated as an equal, valued member of the school community. It is a school which is inclusive to all.

We are proud to be working towards recognition of the School of Sanctuary status and ensuring our pupils learn what it means to be seeking a place of sanctuary. Our broad curriculum provides scope for children to explore these themes throughout topical learning.

Matthew 25:35-40

35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in,
36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’
37 “Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 When did we see you a stranger and invite you in, or needing clothes and clothe you?
39 When did we see you sick or in prison and go to visit you?’
40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’

Children's Mental Health Week

Pupils have been learning how to cope with stress, changes and the effects overthinking can have on our bodies. The pupils in Year 6 will soon embark upon their biggest transition moving to high school and so this session was an opportunity for them to share any worries and learn how they can manage this move. Year 2 even embarked upon a walk to receive some fresh air and purchase a healthy snack.

Refugee Integration Network Visit

We were lucky enough to have a visit from Viktoriia. She spent time with our Y3- Y6 classes discussing what it means to be a refugee, using her personal journey from Ukraine. The children were able to ask questions, delve deeper into the meaning of refugee and look at ways in which we can all help.

Refugee Week

We have had a wonderful week of learning, beginning with a whole school worship; where we used the story of Paddington to explain what it means to be a refugee. In classes the children have then delved into refugee week further and have produced artwork, poetry and letters. Please see below:
