Welcome to the Year 6 class page. My name is Mrs Morris and I am the Year 6 Class Teacher. Here you will find information on what we will be learning in class each half term.
We hope to make your child’s final year at St Kentigern’s their most memorable year yet, full of lots of opportunities for learning, as well as getting involved in the wider life of the school.
In the final year of primary school, we aim to equip pupils with the skills they will need for their upcoming transition to secondary school. Some of the ways in which we aim to do this include developing their independence through increased responsibilities in school (including House Captains and Playground Pals), increasing their resilience in lessons and developing their confidence in all areas.
This year, the children will have the opportunity to take part in our residential trip, which not only allows the children to take part in a range of exciting activities but also build their communication skills, team working and resilience.
As a Catholic school, the teachings of Jesus Christ are at the centre of everything we do; He is our role model and a wonderful example for ourselves and all our children to follow. We work hard to ensure the children are taught to the highest standard and have a curriculum that is creative, challenging and exciting.
ClassDojo is used to share what we have been learning in class each week, as well as share news and other key information.
Year 6 pupils are expected to read at home every day and to record this in their Reading Record Book. Spellings are tested weekly on a Friday morning and pupils are expected to learn their spellings. Half termly homework grids are shared via ClassDojo, which provide a range of learning tasks the children can complete, linked to their half termly topics. At times throughout the year, pupils will also be given a small amount of homework to extend and enhance their learning in school.
